Carpe Noctum is an interactive, improvisational theater group, functioning under
the Vampire oriented live action role-playing rules published by White Wolf
and also under the organizational rules and auspices of One World By Night.
We seek to create an ongoing collaborative work of art using the framework of
a game that lends itself well to the ancient art of storytelling. We strive
to give the act of aesthetic creation precedence over the game related ideas
of “winning” and “losing”.Organizational Rules
Organizational rules may not be enacted without a vote, and may be overturned
similarly by a vote. House rules may only be enacted by the head storyteller,
but may be overturned by a vote of the membership (or by the head storyteller).Voting
All voting shall be conducted by secret ballot among the membership, and a simple
majority shall carry the vote. Only accepted members may vote. Voting shall
only be conducted at official, pre-announced meetings, and shall not be conducted
if less than two thirds of the total membership is present. A vote may be called
by any member on any subject delineated in these rules, but another member must
second the call for a vote.
Any member may call for a vote of confidence, and another member must second
this call. The vote of confidence will be held on the meeting following the
one on which it is called for to allow for debate, and insure that as many
members as possible may be present. It shall then proceed as per “voting”
above, except that no more than 1/5 of the total membership may be absent.Yearly
Every year during the first game in July a Vote of Retention will be held
for all current Storytellers, including the Head Storyteller. For a Storyteller
to be retained, he or she must be approved for retention by a majority vote
of the membership.New Storytellers
At the first game which occurs three months after a new storyteller is appointed
by the HST the new storyteller will face a Vote of Retention.
Head Storyteller (HST) - The head storyteller shall
be a member elected by a majority vote of members, and shall continue as storyteller
until removed from the post by failing a vote of confidence. No member shall
be nominated or elected to the position of head storyteller against his or
her will or in his or her absence.
Storytellers (ST's) and Narrators - Storytellers and
narrators shall be appointed by the head storyteller as necessary, but may
be removed either by the head storyteller or by majority vote.
Members - Members shall be defined as the body of regular
players and storytellers (ST’s and HST). If anyone has not had a character
or played in six months time, and has not been in contact with any storyteller
or narrator regarding a wish to continue playing, they shall no longer be
considered a member for voting purposes, unless they are serving as a storyteller.
Carpe Noctum accepts players regardless of sexual orientation, gender, handicap,
national origin, race, color or religion. We strongly prefer players who are
tolerant of the diversity in our membership.
Age Requirement - You must be at least 18 years old
to play, unless you are a temporary visitor from another OWBN game. This age
limit is in place to protect us from potential threats to our site and game;
and to insure that no minors are adversely affected by the violent and often,
sexual material this game deals with. This is non-negotiable.Site Behavior - Players must display a responsible
attitude towards our site and towards non-players, including compliance with
all laws and rules that are in force on site.
Carpe Noctum uses a strike system. A player is given a strike at the HST’s discretion. Any person who accumulates three strikes will be removed from the membership and banned from the site. A strike is removed six months after it is received, unless another strike is received in those six months. The strike(s) may also be removed at the discretion of the HST.A player may also be removed from the membership and banned from the site at the discretion of the HST.Players may initiate a strike or ban against another player. This follows standard voting procedures. These requests may be submitted anonymously, but do require a second regardless of the method of submission.
